Ziegler first appeared on Lifetime’s reality dance show Dance Moms television in 2011, alongside her mother and sister. In 2016, the Zieglers left the show after six seasons in order to pursue other projects. Prior to this, she also appeared on Dance Moms’ sister shows Abby’s Ultimate Dance Competition and Abby’s Studio Rescue.
In 2014, Ziegler released her debut album titled Mack Z, which she also used as a stage name for singing appearances. The album peaked at #1 on the iTunes pop charts, as well as #7 on iTunes’ albums sales chart across all genres.
The music video for the album’s lead single, “Girl Party”, also reached #1 on the iTunes pop chart. The video of the single has been viewed more than 65 million times. Later that year, her videos for “Shine” and “Christmas All Year Long” premiered.
She continued to release singles and videos as Mack Z in 2015 and 2016. In 2014, Ziegler and her sister released a limited edition fashion line, The Maddie & Mackenzie Collection, through Mod Angel.
In 2015, Ziegler made her acting debut on Nickelodeon’s sitcom Nicky, Ricky, Dicky & Dawn and appeared in a WowWee commercial alongside her sister. She returned to Nicky, Ricky, Dicky & Dawn in January 2017 in the episode “Keeping Up with the Quadashians”. Also in 2015, she walked the Polo Ralph Lauren Runway in New York City and appeared in an ad campaign video for Glamour Magazine.

Maddie and Mackenzie certainly get a lot of attention on their own — but having the Ziegler sisters in the spotlight also means Melissa has gained some unwanted attention of her own. Radar Online reports Melissa and Kurt Ziegler, Maddie and Mackenzie’s father, were involved in a serious custody battle that fans were then following due to Dance Moms fame. The couple allegedly divorced back in 2010 after eight years of marriage, and the battle for custody over their daughters brought plenty of unwanted attention to the family.
Not only that, but Melissa and Maddie were also allegedly sued, said Teen Vogue. This brought even more negative press to the Ziegler sisters.
Melissa definitely wants her daughters to have the best opportunities possible — but she also fears that they won’t get to live their lives out as regular kids. As she told Cosmopolitan, her biggest fear is that Maddie and Mackenzie are going to grow up too fast and no longer want anything to do with her as they attain fame. “Literally, I’m just a mom from Pittsburgh. I was never a stage mom and my daughter always tells people that. I think a stage mom is someone that pushes their kids, makes them practice, everything has to be perfect. My kids did it on their own,” she added.
The mom of two famous daughters is certainly ready to strap in and watch her kids thrive in all of their endeavors, even if that means moving across the country, though. Like the rest of their fans, we’re excited to see what the Zieglers do next.

Since leaving the show in 2016, Mackenzie has been making a name for herself outside the dance world, but she hasn’t left the stage completely. Last summer, she and Maddie embarked on an epic dance tour in Australia and New Zealand, before adding another leg in the UK in the fall. In 2018, she also competed on ABC’s Dancing with the Stars: Juniors where she made it all the way to the finals with partner Sage Ronson.

Mackenzie also has her very own makeup and merchandise line. She currently has a partnership with the brand FanJoy, with which she helped design a comfy collection of sweatshirts and tees. She also frequently shares sponsored posts about her signature glittery pink TurnBoard, a tool used to help dancers practice and execute turns that can sync to smartphones for performance stats.
But her main passion these days is singing. Citing this, she released her very first album, Phases, which features a track written by Grammy-winning pop star Sia in November. Nevertheless, her most popular music video, “Breathe,” has over 29 million views on Youtube.
